A Mayan concept of unity, we learn to be ourselves through our relationships with others.  Through its five sections, Tu Eres Mi Otro Yo looks at a young person’s search for belonging and self-acceptance, with the inevitable pulls of both loneliness and friendship.  The dance’s visual orientation came from students’ photographs of places where they’ve experienced powerful emotions.  The dancers also created line drawings of each other, as represented on their costumes.  Underneath, images that they drew of themselves are revealed in a moment of reflection and self-affirmation.  Through their generous, self-expressive dancing, we’re invited to realize that they are indeed our other self.
