The Limón Dance Company - 2007

The world renowned José Limón Dance Company partnered with The Wooden Floor for a rare Orange County appearance and one-day residency.

The schedule included Master Classes for The Wooden Floor’s students, as well as an intimate public showing featuring The José Limón Dance Company performing back-to-back with the young artists of The Wooden Floor. The performance took place in The Wooden Floor’s Studio Theatre, and featured Anna Sokolow’s Rooms by the Limón Dance Company and an excerpt of Mark Haim’s What is Too Strong for Breaking performed by The Wooden Floor.

The Limón Dance Company – 2003

Artistic Director Carla Maxwell and 10 company members led over two weeks, intensive and extensive activities:  daily technique and repertory classes, teacher training, lectures/demonstrations and Q&A sessions for families and the community, open company rehearsals, and public performances – with The Wooden Floor students performing alongside Company members.

“What you have created at The Wooden Floor is a safe environment for young people to find themselves, as citizens, as artists, as creative individuals, as people who have the tools to make a contribution to our society and culture.  All of the company was impressed with how open and available the students are to learning and exploring new ideas.  This is a testament to your vision and the realization of it, and that vision and joy is reflected not only in your students, but in everyone on your staff.”

– Carla Maxwell, Artistic Director, Limón Dance Company

Streb Ringside – 2000

New York’s “daredevil” dance company, Streb Ringside, held a four-day KidAction residency at our studios.  Students learned what choreographer Elizabeth Streb calls “Pop Action”: combining dance athletics into a thrill-seeking experience.  At the conclusion, The Wooden Floor's young students performed with Streb at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, who sponsored the residency.

Eliot Feld and Ballet Tech – 1999

Choreographer Eliot Feld and his young, ethnically diverse Ballet Tech Company from New York held a five-day residency that included a daily company class, learning repertory, panel discussions, and one-on-one interaction with the New York dancers. The Wooden Floor's first Residency was sponsored by the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
