Unstoppable

May 29 – June 1

Saint Joseph Ballet marks 25 years of progressive dance-making by calling together a cast of 200 dancers and alumni for its silver anniversary concert, Unstoppable at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, May 29 – June 1.  Unstoppable summons a reminder that we are on a journey through time, connected to our past and forging a future.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Melanie Ríos Glaser, renowned contemporary dance choreographers Mark Haim and Scott Wells join with Glaser to channel the energy and boundless potential of youth.

Mark Haim, A Fulbright Senior Specialist, returns to choreograph at Saint Joseph Ballet for a third time with a thrilling piece featuring what he calls “by far the largest cast I have ever worked with!” - 80 dancers. The piece is based on the music of Ravel’s Bolero, with additional music composition by Alan Terricciano. Haim says he continually returns to choreograph for Saint Joseph Ballet because, “On an artistic level, each time I came to create for SJB, I felt that I was able to realize my visions.”

San Francisco’s Scott Wells, called “one of the 25 To Watch” in 2005 by Dance Magazine, embarks on his first time choreographing for Saint Joseph Ballet with his energy set high. He works off the inspiration of the students and triggers movement vocabulary through improvisation, acrobatics, and athletic partnering.

Ríos Glaser, recently named a “Person of Influence” by the Los Angeles Times Magazine applauds the organization’s 25th Anniversary by honoring Saint Joseph Ballet’s past and setting the stage for its bold future. Her inventive 25th anniversary edition of Mi Corazón Canta is a piece inspired on original choreography by Saint Joseph Ballet’s Founder and first Artistic Director, Beth Burns. Mariachi Voz de America returns to animate this uplifting and joyous fiesta with their live music!

Performances of Saint Joseph Ballet’s Unstoppable take place Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinee performances at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets are available begining April 7th through the Irvine Barclay Theatre Box Office at 949-854-4646 and www.thebarclay.org, as well as through Ticketmaster.
