Saint Joseph Ballet Awarded Educator of the Year at Orange County

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 14th Annual Estrella Awards

Santa Ana, Calif. (April 6, 2007) – Saint Joseph Ballet will be awarded Educator of the Year by the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at the 14th Annual Estrella Awards & Installation Banquet on Saturday, April 28.  The awards ceremony, which celebrates the advancement of the Hispanic community, will be held at the Disneyland Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in Anaheim and will be attended by business and community leaders from Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego counties.

Each year, the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year award is presented to an individual or organization that has demonstrated commitment to the Hispanic community through the support, advancement, and education of Hispanic youth, small business, or corporate partnerships that promote long-term academic and/or professional success.

“This is a true honor for Saint Joseph Ballet.  The Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce annually honors members of the Hispanic community as well as their generous corporate sponsors for leadership,” said Saint Joseph Ballet Managing Director Josie Emmons Turner.  “We are thrilled to receive the Educator of the Year award and to be included in this group of illustrious leaders.”

Founded in 1983, Saint Joseph Ballet is a nonprofit after-school program that helps youth at-risk transform their lives.  Year round, professionals ignite creativity and awaken spirits in nearly 400 low-income youth through cutting edge dance, academic and family programs.  In the dance studios and onstage, young people passionately engage in the artistic process, and at the same time learn what it takes to succeed in life – self-esteem, confidence, leadership, cooperative learning and discipline.  Academic and family programs such as tutoring, college planning and esteem building workshops build on the skills they learn through dance.  By integrating these programs, Saint Joseph Ballet helps develop confident individuals capable of dreaming and achieving beyond their limited circumstances.  Students spend up to nine years with Saint Joseph Ballet and continue their relationship with the organization by receiving academic and scholarship support during college.
