Academic Tutoring
Fostering students’ academic potential is central to Saint Joseph Ballet’s mission. In 2004/05, community volunteers provided over 214 students with nearly 3,000 hours of tutoring.
One-on-One Tutoring: Any student whose GPA falls below 3.0 is matched with a student tutor from the University of California Irvine, or a volunteer tutor. Two times each week, these students receive homework assistance in Saint Joseph Ballet's Betty Hutton Education Center. Fifty-five percent of students who participated regularly in the 2004/05 tutoring program increased their GPA. Tutoring is scheduled to accommodate students’ dance class schedule and academic needs.
Drop-In Tutoring: All students are encouraged to come into the Betty L. Hutton Education Center for a quiet study time before or after their dance class, and to get homework help from available staff and tutors.
Saint Joseph Ballet thanks the Center for Education Partnerships at UC Irvine for providing several tutors during the 2005/06 school year.
More Tutors are Needed! Volunteer as little as two hours a week in Saint Joseph Ballet’s education center. Tutors enjoy personal and positive relationships with students and may choose to tutor students from 4th – 12th grade.
