College Scholarships
Seeking to motivate low income youth to tackle the socio-economic barriers to a higher education, in 1998 Saint Joseph Ballet’s Board of Directors made a promise to provide a college scholarship to any student who attends Saint Joseph Ballet all four years of high school, graduates with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and is accepted into a university, college or arts conservatory. Since then, 93% of Saint Joseph Ballet's graduates have gone on to college - many the first in their families to do so.
Several types of college scholarships are available to Saint Joseph Ballet students. Scholarship funds are awarded annually and paid directly to the university or college and used by the student to pay for books and supplies, or to offset student loans. In addition, students must demonstrate that they are remaining in good academic standing and on track to graduate in four years in order to receive each subsequent year’s award payment.
Achievement Award A $4,000 four-year scholarship is awarded to students who graduate from high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA and attend an accredited college or university.
Excellence Award An $8,000 four-year scholarship is awarded to students who graduate high school with a minimum 3.6 GPA and attend an accredited college or university.
Advanced Training Scholarship Award A few students graduating with a remarkable drive and talent for a professional dance career may be awarded a partial scholarship to attend schools such as Cornish, Alvin Ailey Dance Center, Joffrey Ballet School or Julliard. Saint Joseph Ballet seeks special funding from donors to support these scholarships. Currently, The Hill Family Scholarship supports a Saint Joseph Ballet graduate attending the Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle and preparing for a professional career in modern dance.
Dedicated Scholarships Generous donors, educational institutions and community organizations provide scholarships for promising SJB graduates to attend specific universities or colleges. Current Dedicated Scholarships are:
