One of my most vivid childhood memories was of a Saint Joseph Ballet concert. I was enraptured. I had to be a part of it. I auditioned, but wasn’t accepted. I refused to give up, and got in the next year.
When I felt like an outcast in most childhood activities, the ballet was a haven of support and motivation. Sharing a passion for performance helped me escape frustration and peer pressure. I came to see the dancers and instructors as an extended family.
I reluctantly had to leave the ballet after my eighth grade because my family moved away. Now, seven years later, I still feel strongly about my time at this inspiring, creative program. I am so glad I went back for that second audition.
