You Prepare to Move
You walk into a large empty space —a dance studio—and you bring nothing but yourself. You’re taking time to join with others in an hour long dance class.
You come with more courage than trepidation. You’re determined to jump higher, roll faster and balance longer. Every day begins with the gesture of warming up. You are waking your storehouse of physical wisdom.
It’s another afternoon spent practicing confidence. Acquiring cultural literacy. Having discovered the balance between abandon and control you are one day closer to claiming a life, not of limitation, but of creativity.
Leaving the dance class you wonder, ‘Where is the dance now?’
Over the years an understanding grows: the dance resides within you. The saying in Spanish is, “Who can take away what you have already danced?”
Ephemeral and tangible at once, your movements are your physical connection to the spirit. Now the dance belongs to you.
Today opportunities that acknowledge the spirit are scarce. At Saint Joseph Ballet you kindle that spark that tells you that your point of view matters. Time is precious, and it is now while you are young, that stepping into the dance studio can help you find meaning.
Thank you for your belief in moving our program forward.
