Embraceable You

Premiered 2000

Music: John Cage, John Adams, George and Ira Gershwin

Scenic Design: Kate Edmunds

Costume Design: Jennifer Vaughan

Lighting Design: Clifton Taylor

Sound Design: Steve Barker

Embraceable You is fast, physical, and off-kilter.  Weighted lifts, pedestrian falls, and romantic movements shift quickly like moods.  A deceptively intricate piece, Melanie’s choreography is imaginative, lavish, and economical, with a strange coherence in a free-wheeling piece.  Melanie pulls it off in an intuitive musical development from John Cage to George and Ira Gershwin.
