Workshops

Dulce Chavez, age 17

The Sunflowers is a group that brings girls my age together to talk about our relationships with our families and friends, and how we can learn to communicate better and solve problems.  After my first year in the Sunflowers when I was 14, I tried everything possible to join again the next year, even though it’s really a one-time course.  It didn’t take long before I felt comfortable to speak up and to not feel alone.  The Sunflowers activities and meetings taught me self-confidence and to respect myself, and how to see the individual personalities of others in the group.  Thanks to the Sunflowers, I know how to pick myself up when something goes wrong.

Saint Joseph Ballet offers a variety of workshops that provide a safe forum for at-risk girls to discuss the topics of body image and self-esteem while receiving valuable information from professionals on topics such as developing a positive self-concept, safe and beneficial physical activity practices, and healthy eating behaviors.
