Tu Eres Mi Otro Yo (Mayan call for unity), looks at young peoples’ search for self-acceptance and belonging.  The work germinated from students’ study of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.  Each rehearsal began in a circle of students’ sharing their present feelings, and concluded with quiet journaling.  The dance’s visual orientation came from students’ photographs of places where they’ve experienced powerful emotions.  The dancers created line drawings of each other which were painted on their costumes.  Underneath, their own drawn self-portraits are revealed in a moment of generous, self-expressive dancing.  A glimpse of each, as indeed our other self.
